Pro-Life Movement Gaining Ground

Encouraging news from a recent survey of Americans on the issue of abortion.

A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves “pro-life” on the issue of abortion and 42% “pro-choice.” This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

  • Yeah!! I pray daily for an end to an abortion.

    This is encouraging,

I don’t know anyone who is pro-abortion. I know many who are pro-choice, but that does not mean they expect everyone to have an abortion as the term pro-abortion suggests. I myself am pro-choice. Though I could never have an abortion myself, I do not see it as my place to impose my views on others. On Judgment Day, we will all have to answer for our own actions. If a woman chooses to have one, she will have to answer to God on that day.

What about all of the children who were born and not wanted? They need homes. Let’s worry about saving them first.

    Hi Michelle,

The argument that “I am personally opposed to abortion, but cannot impose my view on others” is tragically flawed. To see why, let’s apply this argument to other moral actions. Imagine if I said the following:

“I am opposed to stealing from other people, but I could never impose my view on others.”
“I am opposed to rape, but I could never impose that view on others.”
“I am opposed to murder, but I could never impose that view on others.”

Those statements are obviously misguided, as anyone can see. So why do people say, “I am opposed to abortion, but I could never impose my view on others”? If you really think abortion is the killing of an innocent human being, then that is exactly the kind of thing that governments pass laws to prevent! Why would we not want to “impose” a ban on killing an innocent human being?

If you don’t believe that abortion is killing an innocent human being, then why are you personally opposed to it?

    God bless,
    Bill
